there's no link between death penalty and gun control
in my opinion gun control is bad: unfortunately here we have an over repressive legislation on guns.... O_O

Oh and I'm not sure that the UK will leave the EU. What's to gain?

Time for a new thread :)
maybe freedom and indipendence?
well...UK should leave EU but also NATO to be really indipendent
otherwise it will remain the big american aircraft carrier in Europe...

maybe freedom and indipendence?
From what? An economic block that gets a not carried away sometimes?

The UK would be a very small country in a very big world. Very little to negotiate with. Not like China which is as big as any power block that could be constructed. It does need to be balanced, as does the US and a resurgent Russia.

Also, for the record, there is not an EU armed forces.

this is a discussion about a legal punishment not about victims, feelings and stuff like that...
law can't be perfect so it's obvious life imprisonment is not perfect but I told you before with this punishment you can fix a bad sentence.
with d.p. this is impossible if you've already executed the inmate
Yes but you make it sound like they are all innocent. You want it one way without feelings for anyone who has had to deal with this personally. You are mute to me.

maybe UK would be a small country but it should be more indipendent than now. you don't need to be big in this world.
Switzerland is small too but it's not a EU servant!
what's now UK? a EU province like all the other EU members...

because government will never protect you....the only real defense is self defense
Ha! Yet another thread :)

You sound scared. Why causes that in society? Inequality usually? How do you solve that? A little not, just a little bit, of socialism and sharing the wealth around.

The UK Police are also unarmed except for a limited number of armed response units, hence criminals are very rarely armed.

Is this too off topic or does this count as avoiding the need for a death penalty?

I don't think they're all innocent but it happens....so better not to legally ******* inmates and keep them in prison for life.

death penalty is useless, really useless.
self defense is the key: if criminals know you're armed they will think twice before assaulting you.
sorry but I don't believe in socialism or "sharing" the wealth around
socialism failed everywhere (even here....the only socialist thing left here is our flag... O__O)

BUT THEY DON'T ALL STAY IN THERE FOR LIFE. ARE YOU THAT DEAF?
That's an issue, but that's for the law to be applied appropriately. It doesn't make the death penalty correct from the perspective of miscarriages of justice.

I'm not going to go into the paradox of the state killing someone for committing *******.

right....it's utterly ridicolous
you ******* someone and the state legally ******* you
this remind me the "bible".... eye for an eye...barbaric and useless

Quilla, in her WISDOM, keeps stating they are in there for life. Someone points out an example of where it wasn't the case. This is her response to someone that experienced a loved one being taken.
"just a single case.
it means nothing.
life imprisonment is a good method to prevent other criminal acts and if you made a mistake you can fix it."
Then goes on to say they DON'T GET OUT once again.

they do Life imprisonment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
pardon and commutation are different things...

I know I'm guilty of posting a link to Wikipedia, but just because it says a thing doesn't make it true. The law in practice is very different to the law in theory.

International law tends to view imprisonment without hope of release a form of ******* so parole hearings will happen. Sometimes people do change. Sometimes they don't. I don't know enough murders and rapists to say...
