Charges in Slayings of ******* and Off-Duty Sapulpa Officer

By Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — ******* charges have been filed against a man suspected of shooting his ******* and an off-duty Sapulpa police officer to death in Midwest City.

The Oklahoman reports that 22-year-old Jonathan Grafton and his 22-year-old girlfriend — Daphne Mason — were both charged Friday with two counts of first-degree ******* for the Aug. 15 deaths of Jeffrey Grafton and Sapulpa police Lieutenant Trey Pritchard.

Online court records do not list an attorney for either suspect. Both remain jailed without bond.

Police say Jonathan Grafton and Mason stole Jeffrey Grafton's pickup truck and drove to Midwest City where they rented a motel room. Jeffrey Grafton and Pritchard used GPS to locate the truck and went to the motel room where both were later found shot to death.

Death penalty case involving murdered pregnant Athens store clerk plods along

A Superior Court judge has postponed the arraignment of a woman accused of participating in the ******* of a pregnant convenience store clerk on Athens’ Westside more than a year ago.

Shameeka LaShae Watson was unable to enter a plea during a scheduled hearing Friday because new attorneys were assigned to her case only two days earlier.

She and co-defendant Clarence McCord III both pleaded not guilty in April to charges they murdered 25-year-old Kejuan Charde Hall in December 2010, but when the district attorney filed notice four months later that he planned to seek the death penalty, McCord and Watson by law need to be re-arraigned.

McCord entered a second not-guilty plea at his re-arraignment in November.

Watson, who was to be re-arraigned Friday, had been represented by an attorney from the Georgia Capital Defender program in Atlanta, but she recently withdrew from the case due to an undisclosed conflict.

The Georgia Public Defender Standards Council appointed two local attorneys to represent Watson — Eric Eberhart, a former prosecutor and defense attorney with experience trying death penalty cases, and Elizabeth Grant, who has no experience with such cases.

Watson told Superior Court Judge David Sweat she was satisfied with her new attorneys.

Sweat granted Eberhart’s request to postpone Watson’s re-arraignment for at least 30 days from after he receives evidence from prosecutors to give him time to review the material and file motions.

Sweat, who last month granted Watson’s request to be tried separately from McCord, will hold a series of hearings in March on dozens of motions his attorneys have already filed, including requests to suppress statements McCord made to police.

Watson and McCord were indicted on charges of malice and felony *******, and also with feticide because Hall was eight weeks pregnant when she was stabbed 31 times in the office of the Golden Pantry at Atlanta Highway and Timothy Road.

Athens-Clarke police have not released a definitive motive for Hall’s *******, though they said the crime may have been a botched robbery or even a for-hire killing.

No money was stolen from the Golden Pantry, police said, and the only thing missing was the surveillance camera recorder.

McCord wrote a letter to Sweat in September, claiming that he and Watson only stumbled onto the ******* scene, and they left without notifying police because Watson was on probation and McCord didn’t want her to get in any trouble.

Update: Officer, victim dead after shooting, stabbing incident in Sunset, LA

By Alyssa Schneider
Fox6 WBRC

SUNSET, LA (WAFB) - The officer who was shot by a suspect and one of the stabbing victims have died in Sunset, Louisiana.

Two of the people stabbed by a suspected shooter Wednesday in Sunset, Louisiana are sisters of Grand Coteau Interim Mayor Shaterral Johnson. Both 40-year-old Shameka Johnson and Officer Henry Nelson died Wednesday evening.

34-year-old Surlay Johnson is in critical condition at Lafayette General. A third person was also stabbed in the incident. Courtney Jolivette, the suspect's wife, is currently in surgery.

The alleged gunman, now identified as Harrison Lee Wiley Jr., is in custody after he barricaded himself inside an mini-mart on Hwy 93 during a standoff took place for less than two hours.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said that deputies made entry into the Exxon Mini Mart. The suspect had barricaded himself inside an office in the mini-mart but was eventually taken into custody around 6:25 p.m.

"We had to go in with tools. We had to go in with tear gas, c-gas. We had to go in with hammers and firemen’s axes to try to get to the door and breach the door," said Guidroz. The sheriff also said a negotiator was on scene to try and talk the suspect into coming out peacefully.

According to Sheriff Guidroz, the incident started off as a possible domestic issue and quickly turned into "hell in a hand basket." He said Officer Nelson was shot after responding to the scene of a stabbing on Anna Street.

Officials say after shooting the officer, the suspect drove his vehicle to the mini-mart where there were three people inside: the store owner, a cook and a customer. All three were able to make it out safely.

The suspect was treated by Acadian Ambulance medics for c-gas burns and irritation to the face and eyes after being taken into custody.

The mini-mart where the alleged gunman holed up caught on fire later Wednesday evening, but the flames were put out by a fire department on scene. The cause of the fire is unknown at this point.

Sunset is located 10 miles north of Lafayette and 10 miles south of Opelousas.

Dallas police have arrested a 22-year-old woman who, detectives say, has admitted to her involvement in the Wednesday night ******* of Dr. Kendra Hatcher.

The suspect, identified in a police statement as Crystal Cortes of Dallas, is charged with capital ******* and is being held on $500,000 bond. (The suspect's last name is spelled "Cortez" in police documents, but a family member told WFAA her legal surname is spelled "Cortes.")

Police said Cortes has provided information that indicated other suspects were involved in the slaying in the secure parking garage of an Uptown Dallas apartment building.

According to a police affidavit, Cortes borrowed a 1996 Jeep Cherokee from a friend. The defendant told detectives that she "conspired with an unnamed individual for $500" to use that vehicle to drive an unknown male suspect to the parking garage at 1700 Cedar Springs Road on Wednesday night with the intention of robbing Hatcher.

Security footage released by police showed a 1996 Jeep Cherokee being driven by a woman in the garage at the time of the homicide.

Police said a witness provided information that led them to Cortes, and that she "voluntarily" went to police headquarters and admitted to her role in the crime.

Police have not released information about any additional suspects being sought in the Kendra Hatcher ******* case.

Death Penalty Sought for Charles Merritt in 2010 CA Quadruple ******* of McStay Family

The McStay family

Charles Merritt

'Cold and callous' murders of McStay family solved, authorities say

By Michael Pearson, CNN

(CNN) -- Almost a year to the day after an off-road motorcyclist found the remains of a California family who had vanished from their home in 2010, authorities announced Friday they had arrested the man they believe is responsible for the deaths.

Charles "Chase" Merritt is charged with four counts of ******* in the deaths of Joseph and Summer McStay and their two small boys, San Bernardino County, California, District Attorney Michael Ramos told reporters at a news conference.

Merritt, 57, was arrested Wednesday without incident in Chatsworth, California, Detective Chris Fisher said.

Police say they believe the family died of "blunt ******* trauma" inside their home north of San Diego, but they declined to discuss specifics of the deaths or a motive.

Merritt, who was a business partner of Joseph McStay's, appeared in court Friday but his arraignment was postponed until Wednesday. No bail was set.

In an earlier interview with CNN, Merritt said he received a phone call from Joseph McStay the night they disappeared, but didn't answer it because he was busy and tired.

"There are hundreds of scenarios," he told CNN at the time. "I have gone over all of them in my head. Of course I regret not picking up the phone."

Friday, McStay's brother, Michael McStay, choked back tears in thanking investigators for their work on the case.

"You have no idea what this means," he said.

Police who searched their home days after the family disappeared found eggs on the kitchen counter and bowls of popcorn in the living room, along with the family's two dogs. There were no signs of a struggle.

Despite finding the family's SUV in San Ysidro, California -- where it had been towed from the Mexican border -- and video surveillance that showed a family matching the description of the McStays crossing the border, authorities had no clue what happened to them until the discovery of their bodies on November 11, 2013.

A motorcyclist passing through the area found the remains in two shallow graves not far from Interstate 15 in San Bernardino County, more than 100 miles from the family's home north of San Diego.

Authorities identified the remains using dental records. At the time, San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon said the killings appeared to be "extremely orchestrated" and carried out by more than one person.

But after reviewing 4,500 pages of investigative records, executing 60 search warrants and conducting 200 interviews, investigators zeroed in on Merritt, concluding he had acted alone in killing the family in their own home, San Bernardino authorities said.

He declined to say what specifically led them to that conclusion.

Fisher did, however, say there was no evidence the family had traveled to Mexico after their disappearance, calling the border video "unrelated" to the case.

"We don't think it's them," he said.

Ramos said he has not yet decided whether he will seek the death penalty in what he called a "cold and callous ******* of an entire family."

Joseph McStay's mom credited investigators for their strength and determination to solve the case.

"I need justice from the law and the courts and to get to talk to the judge," she said. "And most of all, justice upstairs for my lovely family."

Texas deputy executed days after black radical group calls for killing cops

By Bob Price and Lana Shadwick
Breibart News

HOUSTON, Texas — A Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot execution style at a gas station while reportedly in full uniform. The deputy was filling up his patrol car. Witnesses told Breitbart Texas the shooter shot the deputy in the back of the head and then three times in the back. This tragedy comes within days of a group of Black radicals calling for “lynching whites and killing cops,” as Breitbart Texas recently reported. Witnesses also told Breitbart Texas that the shooter was a black male.

The shooting occurred late Friday evening in Northwest Harris County just outside of Houston. One witness who spoke to this writer said he knew the deputy personally and had just spoken with him about five minutes before the shooting.

He said he saw the man shoot his friend and speed off in a red pickup truck. He said he followed the truck for about two miles until he lost it at a major highway intersection. The truck turned onto Highway 6 from West Road and disappeared.

Deputies in the area confirmed they were indeed searching for a red Ford Ranger pickup truck.

Two teenage girls told Breitbart Texas they saw the shooter fire one shot into the back of the head of the deputy who was simply getting gas for his vehicle. After the deputy fell, they heard three or four other shots.

According to the first witness, those shots were fired into the deputy’s back.

The execution of the deputy came just days after black radicals went on an internet radio show hosted from Texas and called for the lynching of white people and the killing of cops to “turn the tide” against blacks being killed by cops. Breitbart Texas reported on Friday morning the details of the radio show and the comments that were made.

One black man spoke up saying they needed to ******* “cops that are killing us. The other black male on the show said, “That will be the best method right there.”

The shooter is described as male, dark complexion, five-foot-ten to six-foot. He was said to be wearing a white t-shirt and red shorts.
Witnesses said a LifeFlight helicopter came and picked up the deputy to take him to the hospital, but they believe he was dead at the scene.

The first witness showed this reporter a photo of the deputy with his children. He was highly emotional as he was speaking. “He was the best guy you can imagine as a friend,” the witness said. “He was always coming to me and asking if he could do anything for me.”

Breitbart Texas will follow this developing story.

Abilene officer murdered at home in planned, coordinated attack by ‘multiple parties’

Yet another officer has been killed this week in what is being described as having been planned by multiple parties to ******* an Abilene police officer in his home. The slain officer has been identified as Don Allen by the chief of police. According to a local news source, Big Country Homepage, a search warrant for cell tower information included the following:

This ruling isn’t official, but a direct quote from the documents reads, “communication occurred between multiple parties to plan and carry out the *******. [The officer filing the warrant] believes cell towers within the ten mile radius will have captured transaction between the suspects who were involved in this *******.”

Little information has been made available to the public at this point, but it has been released that the FBI, Texas DPS, Texas Rangers and other agencies have joined in the investigation. Authorities have said this was not a random targeting of a police officer.

“His family is heartbroken, as is our police family,” said an Abilene police spokesman according to WFAA.

We will update this story as information becomes available. Full press release from Abilene PD below.

OFFICER DEATH INVESTIGATION ABILENE, TX – On August 31, 2015, the Clyde Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a south side residence shortly after 7 pm indicating a man had been found deceased in the home. When police arrived, they found the body of off-duty Abilene Police Officer Don Allen. He was the only person inside the residence when found by family members. The manner of death was clearly suspicious, so the Clyde Police Department contacted the Abilene Police Department and Texas Rangers for assistance. All three agencies and the FBI have now been working through this investigation non-stop, and we will continue until those responsible are taken into custody. This investigation is being treated as a homicide. At this time, there does not appear to be any danger to members of the Clyde community, nor is there any indication that random law enforcement personnel are being targeted.

I will defer all other questions about this investigation to the Texas Rangers, of whom Ranger Shane Morrow is primary. My primary purpose of this media conference is to give Abilene a keen understanding of the great man and great peace officer that we lost yesterday. Before Abilene hired Don, he was working as an officer in Cisco, Texas. He had been with that agency for a year and 5 months. What really impressed us about Don was the fact that he applied for Abilene and indicated he wanted to go through our full police academy, versus an abbreviated lateral academy. This entailed another long and grueling six months of training. He completed the training, and in doing so gained lifelong friends and tremendous respect for fully adopting Abilene’s core values. Officer Don Allen graduated from Police Academy Class 51 along with 14 other officers. As a peace officer, he had accrued 1,400 training hours. His total service time as a Texas Peace Officer was 3 years and 3 months.

Officer Allen is survived by his parents of Clyde, as well as two brothers and a sister. This family is heartbroken over the loss of their loved one, as is our police family. Parents should not have to bury their children, and this family certainly needs our love and prayers during this time. Officer Allen was engaged to be married, having proposed to his fiancé on July 12th. The Police Department, Police Association, Police Spouses

Association, and our Chaplain have worked together to comfort these family members during this time. Visitation is set for Thursday, September 3rd from 5 to 7 pm in the Chapel at Beltway Park Church, located at 4009 Beltway South, Abilene. Services will then be Friday, September 4th at 10 am.

Death Penalty Sought for Kevin Daigle in 2015 LA Slaying of Senior Trooper Steven Vincent

Louisiana trooper dies after being shot in head, police say

A Louisiana state trooper died Monday from injuries he suffered when he was shot in the head Sunday afternoon by a man whose pickup truck had run into a ditch, and who got out of the truck with a sawed-off shotgun.

"As an organization, we are heartbroken over this senseless and tragic death," the police department wrote in a Facebook post.

Police video showed 43-year-old Senior Trooper Steven Vincent, a 13-year state police veteran in southwest Louisiana and member of a law enforcement family, trying to talk a man out of the vehicle stuck sideways in a ditch, Col. Mike Edmonson said Sunday night.

He said the truck door opened and the man, identified as Kevin Daigle, 54, of Lake Charles, came out with the shotgun.

"That shotgun wasn't to do anything else but hurt someone. ******* someone," Edmonson said during a news conference late Sunday.

He said the tape shows the shotgun blast. "I saw my trooper go backwards and back toward his unit, where he was going to try to get some help out there," Edmonson said.

At least two or three buckshot pellets hit Vincent, doing major damage. "His brain is not telling his body what to do," Edmonson said.

After the shooting, he said, Daigle wandered into the road and over to Vincent, asking if he was alive.

"You could hear him breathing, telling him, `You're lucky. You're lucky -- you're going to die soon.' That's the words that came out of his mouth," Edmonson said.

He said two or three drivers stopped immediately, one of them making a quick turnaround on the two-lane highway.

That driver wrestled the shotgun away from Daigle, and, with the others, got him to the ground, and snapped Vincent's handcuffs on his wrists, Edmonson said. As far as he knew, he said, the good Samaritans were unhurt.

Edmonson said Daigle had "numerous DWIs" and other arrests that he wouldn't discuss because he didn't know whether they resulted in convictions. Daigle faces charges including attempted first-degree ******* of a police officer, Edmonson said.

Sgt. James Anderson, southwest Louisiana spokesman for state police, said Daigle also was in a hospital.

"He struggled with the guys who came to assist -- had some scrapes on him and so on," Anderson said.

Anderson said police had received calls Sunday about a maroon Dodge pickup truck with a camper shell that was driving erratically. A bit later, it was reported in a ditch. The trooper got to the truck at 2:43 p.m., Anderson said.

Earlier, Edmonson wrote about the shooting on the department's Facebook page. The message's subject line was "Trooper Critically Injured -- Prayers Needed."

"Please take a moment from your Sunday afternoon to send prayers and well wishes to the Trooper and his family in this critical time," Edmonson wrote.

Within an hour, 5,100 people had shared the post and nearly 2,000 had posted messages saying they were praying.

Edmonson said Vincent had a wife and a 9-year-old *******. Edmonson said one of Vincent's brothers is also a state trooper and another is police chief in the nearby town of Iowa.

"His family lives and breathes law enforcement," Edmonson said.

I think it would be a bit more constructive to discuss ways to turn the growing ******* rate down. I believe in the death penalty, but think capital punishments should be public view and much more simplified and less complicated, like a guillotine. I don't think the death penalty, however, deters most murders. We need to get to the root of the problem. In the mean time, the US could take a giant step by having stricter gun regulations & limiting the types of guys citizens can obtain. We can thank the NRA and big money for influencing bad regulatory legislation.

Never miss a chance to get in a dig against the NRA, do you?

So which guns exactly are you talking about? The types of guns that American citizens can own are already limited by statute, as well as what types of guns can be imported, as who is ineligible to own guns :

Never miss a chance to get in a dig against the NRA, do you?
Which guns exactly are you talking about?
I'm not sure what you're talking about, bm ... and what are all those links for? I'm a gun owner, myself ... 2 pistols, 2 shotguns, 2 rifles ... ALL properly registered. But the NRA contributes millions of dollars for Washington influence saying "guns don't ******* people, people ******* people" ... ok, that's kewl .... let's have stricker background checks, then .... but nooooooooooo, we can't do that either. You should google "NRA's Influence In Washington" and read the hundreds of reports & articles. This country needs better background check requirements, stricter requirements for pistols, and rifles with clips holding 30-50 rounds of military grade ammo should be outlawed ... just my opinion, ok?
You can not deny that handgun violence is way, way UP, and you can go to flea markets and gun shows and purchase pistols with NO background checks. Needs to be stopped. And concealed weapons ... for common citizens, absolutely NOT!
By the way, in Charlotte just yesterday, another 9 year old black girl killed in her yard while 2 rival gangs shot it out. She was the ONLY ONE killed. This crap needs to stop.
Again, just MY OPINION!

******* Victim's Family Speaks Out After Richard Glossip Gains More Supporters

By Justin Dougherty
News 9

OKLAHOMA CITY - Death row inmate Richard Glossip continues to gain supporters. Most recent to join the list, Dr. Phil.

Those on the other side of the issue call the recent support disgusting. News 9's Justin Dougherty has more on the reaction and what Glossip's supporters have planned for Thursday.

The push to save the life of death row inmate Richard Glossip continues. On Thursday, Sister Helene Prejean will "urge public outcry" at the state capitol.

This comes after Glossip gained the support of Dr. Phil, who expressed his support this week on his show.

After the episode aired the petition proclaiming Glossip's innocence collected over 40,000 new signatures, pushing the total over 220,000. But as of right now Glossip's execution is still on, and Ladonna Heintzelman supports Governor Fallin's decision not to issue a stay.

Ten years ago, Heintzelman's 17-year-old ******* was kidnapped and murdered. Now Heintzelman feels ******* victims' families need a voice as well.

"Give us 60 days to have competent counsel to provide this evidence and let the courts hear it. If they aren’t moved by the evidence fine, we don't want to provide it after he's dead," said Dr. Phil.

"******* is not entertainment. Unfortunately it is in Hollywood and it makes them big bucks, but in true life, it's not entertainment. It's real life, people, it's real lives, it's real families. ******* is like having your heart amputated without any medication. And you have to live with it. Glossip is not the victim here. He is not. He committed a crime, he's gone through the justice system and it needs to be upheld," said Ladonna Heintzelman, whose ******* was murdered 10 years ago.

While Glossip's attorneys continue to say they have new evidence that supports Glossip's innocence, no new evidence has been filed in court.

Facts of the Crime:

Alfredo R. Prieto was sentenced to death on March 4, 2008 (and re-sentenced to death on December 15, 2010) in Fairfax County for the capital murders of Rachel A. Faver and Warren H. Two days later Raver’s partially nude body was discovered in a field along Hunter Mill Road just south of the Dulles Toll Road in Fairfax County.

Raver’s jeans, underpants, gloves and shoes were found halfway between her body and Fulton’s about 100 feet away. Raver had been raped and each died from a gunshot wound in the back fired by the same handgun.

Raver’s car turned up in Queens, New York, where it was ticketed by police December 5, the day before the slayings were discovered. But it was not secured until months later after Raver’s mom was notified by mail that the ticket was past due.

In 1999, testing was performed on a vaginal swab taken from Raver and a DNA profile was discovered that did not belong to either her or Fulton.

In 2005, a cold hit matched the foreign DNA in the Raver/Fulton slayings with Prieto, who was on California’s death row at San Quentin State Prison for the 1990 ******* and ******* of a teenage girl.

He was extradited to Fairfax County in 2006. His first trial ended with a mistrial because to juror misconduct. He was convicted again in 2008.

Prieto was also linked by DNA to a May 10, 1988 ******* and capital ******* in Arlington County but those charges were not prosecuted after Prieto was sentenced to death in Fairfax.
