Manchin’s Defections Have Helped Yield Fund-Raising Windfall

(Bloomberg) -- Bucking his party has paid off for Senator Joe Manchin who raised $1.6 million in the fourth quarter and a total of $4.8 million in 2021, his highest total ever in a non-election year.

The West Virginia Democrat’s haul over the last three months of the year includes hundreds of thousands of dollars from financial industry and real estate donors, according to Manchin’s latest filing with the Federal Election Commission.

Along with Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Manchin has thrown sand into the gears of President Joe Biden’s legislative agenda. Manchin announced in December that he couldn’t support the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion spending bill that addresses a wide range of the party’s policy priorities, citing, among other things, its price tag and impact on the energy industry. With the Senate evenly split and all 50 Republicans opposed to the legislation, Manchin’s opposition effectively derailed the bill.

In January, after Biden called passing a rewrite of the nation’s voting laws a top priority, Manchin and fellow Democrat Sinema each announced they opposed changing the Senate’s filibuster rules that would have allowed a vote to proceed.

Sinema raised $1.6 million in the fourth quarter and ended the year with $5.8 million cash on hand. Her next election is in 2024.

Opinion: Even in CT, Republicans are trying to steal elections

For years, Republicans have peddled false claims of voter fraud as justification for laws that make it harder to vote. But since voter suppression alone hasn’t been adequate to keep Republicans from losing, the party’s anti-democracy strategy has expanded to attempts to give them the power to overturn election outcomes, including here in Connecticut.

Proud Boys Toese, Furrow charged with riot in MultCo

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Tusitala “Tiny” Toese and fellow Proud Boy Miles Furrow were each indicted on multiple charges Monday related to an August 22, 2021 Proud Boy event in Northeast Portland.

Both Toese and Furrow face assault and riot charges among others. Furrow faces 8 charges, Toese faces 12, Multnomah County DA Mike Schmidt said in a release.

That day, demonstrators gathered in the parking lot of a former K-Mart store near Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard at 2 p.m. for the "Summer of Love" event where speakers addressed the crowd of more than 100 people. Some people were dressed in tactical vests and some were wearing apparel associating them with the Proud Boys.

About 2 hours later, counter-protesters arrived. The situation escalated quickly. Demonstrators began igniting fireworks, people fired paintball guns and smoke devices. Tires were slashed and windows were smashed on a vehicle.

Toese and Furrow are listed as co-defendants, the DA’s office said.

How can a former President like Donald J. Trump draw huge crowds of followers to Rallies all over America even in January one year after the election was officially stolen from him ? Just one of many puzzling questions.
Shouldn't be that puzzling, afterall, he's paid people before to attend his rallies. Ever wonder why the people directly behind the X-Prez are often the same people, rally after rally? Amazing what people are willing to do for a few bucks. They, and many like them, view Trump as their "savior". Which is why it is so dangerous to instruct his drones to riot in all the big cities IF he gets indicted. But then, Trump doesn't give a damn about anyone but himself.

New poll out 76% of Americans think Debacle Joe shouldn’t use race and gender as a determining factor for choosing a replacement for Breyer
It's called proper representation, sort of like the electoral votes vs the popular voting in smaller states.
I'm sure all that doesn't matter to an ass like you as you don't care just so long as YOUR MAN wins, regardless of how he wins.
