I'm not sure as many as you envision do. More males in general, but particularly white males, seem to be more emasculated these days ... wearing makeup, ear jewelry, and more bisexuality. I can't speak as to why other white boys like interracial, but I personally like it for two reasons: comperision and masochism.
From a comperision point of view, I believe/suspect that most white girls have a strong attraction for black men since black men are the ultimate "dark and handsome outsiders" that psychologically so many women find attractive. For me, I think you're a little off base as far as the sports and music goes. Because, I can watch a football game and the race of the players truly doesn't factor into how much entertainment I get from watching it.
