Why would you want your desire to be the desire of other men? Why would you refuse to accept that not everyone is interested in gayish activities? Not wanting to engage in homosexual activities doesn't make you homophobic, I don't think anyone in this thread has accused anyone of being homophobic based solely on that. Second, related to the above-mentioned article and your statement on homophobia, I believe any good discussion should always start with a common ground as to the definitions of the main concepts used or debated. So, what is homophobia? It appears to me that there is a new trend in changing the definition of a certain number of words to fit a certain of thinking or doing. A few examples are sex, gender, and women. Homophobia is one of them.
Doesn't the prefix "homo" mean identical, same type, or kind? I guess we would agree on that. Doesn't the suffix "phobia" mean fear? Here too we would agree. So, homophobia would mean the fear of your kind. Examples would include a human fearing another human, a heterosexual fearing another heterosexual, a homosexual fearing another homosexual, a woman fearing another woman, etc. Nowhere, the term homophobia means hatred of the same kind. The suffix most appropriate would have misia which would have led to homomisia. Even so, this would have meant not liking one of the same kind, it wouldn't be specific as in heterosexuals not liking gays or lesbians, as they are sexually of different kinds. My point is another term should be designed that express that sort of dislike. The idea that homophobia is the hatred of homosexuals was the opinion of the psychologist George Weinberg, who believed that hatred comes primarily from fear. Now, that hatred might originate from fear doesn't mean that heatred equals fear.
On the hate of homosexuals. That some human beings literally hate other human beings is undeniable. Racism of any kind is a mere example of that. Some people say it's irrational. I would say it rather stems from a place of superiority complex or disdain, among other reasons. However, is it rational to call hate the attitude of not liking something on someone or in their behavior? Would be hate if a ******* doesn't like the rude attitude of his ******* toward women?
