Trump Floats Improbable Survival Scenarios as He Ponders His Future

At a meeting on Wednesday at the White House, President Trump had something he wanted to discuss with his advisers, many of whom have told him his chances of succeeding at changing the results of the 2020 election are thin as a reed.

He then proceeded to press them on whether Republican legislatures could pick pro-Trump electors in a handful of key states and deliver him the electoral votes he needs to change the math and give him a second term, according to people briefed on the discussion.

It was not a detailed conversation, or really a serious one, the people briefed on it said. Nor was it reflective of any obsessive desire of Mr. Trump’s to remain in the White House.

“He knows it’s over,” one adviser said. But instead of conceding, they said, he is floating one improbable scenario after another for staying in office while he contemplates his uncertain post-presidency future.

There is no grand strategy at play, according to interviews with a half-dozen advisers and people close to the president. Mr. Trump is simply trying to survive from one news cycle to the next, seeing how far he can push his case against his defeat and ensure the continued support of his Republican base.

Red state governors reject Biden on mask orders

President-elect Joe Biden says he'll personally call red state governors and persuade them to impose mask mandates to slow down the coronavirus pandemic. Their early response: Don’t waste your time.

Almost all of the 16 Republican governors who oppose statewide mask mandates are ready to reject Biden’s plea, they told POLITICO or declared in public statements — even as they impose new restrictions on businesses and limit the size of public gatherings to keep their health systems from getting swamped.

South Dakota’s Kristi Noem, Oklahoma’s Kevin Stitt and Nebraska’s Pete Ricketts, whose states are engulfed by new cases, say mask wearing should remain a personal choice, not a legal obligation — despite recommendations from health officials and updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control stressing that masks protect the wearer, not just people nearby, from infection.

“Governor Noem has provided her people with the full scope of the science, facts, and data regarding the virus, and then she has trusted them to exercise their personal responsibility to make the best decisions for themselves and their loved-ones,” Noem spokesperson Ian Fury wrote in an email. “She will not be changing that approach.”

No surprise here - personal politics before God, country & the people!
What else could anyone expect of a diehard republican - until it directly hits their family that is - maybe!

Missing From State Plans to Distribute the Coronavirus Vaccine: Money to Do It

With the prospect that a coronavirus vaccine will become available for emergency use as soon as next month, states and cities are warning that distributing the shots to an anxious public could be hindered by inadequate technology, severe funding shortfalls and a lack of trained personnel.

While the Trump administration has showered billions of dollars on the companies developing the vaccines, it has left the logistics of inoculating and tracking as many as 20 million people by year’s end — and many tens of millions more next year — largely to local governments without providing enough money, officials in several localities and public health experts involved in the preparations said in interviews.

Worsening coronavirus crisis pushes leaders to take new measures

Late Friday night, North Dakota’s Republican governor — long resistant to statewide orders on masking and social distancing — acknowledged that his state and country were in dire straits.

Bars, restaurants and event venues would have to cut capacity, Gov. Doug Burgum said in a solemn video posted to social media. Most after-school activities would be put on hold. Starting Saturday, masks must be worn inside businesses, indoors in public spaces and outdoors in public when social distancing can’t be maintained, backed by potential fines of up to $1,000 for the first offense.

“Our situation has changed, and we must change with it,” the governor said, as the United States breaks records for daily new cases and North Dakota leads in recent infections per capita.

COVID ICU nurse: "It's hard to...see the regret that they have"

A traveling ICU nurse who has been treating COVID-19 patients said she often sees "regret" from her patients for not taking action to prevent contracting the virus. Lydia Mobley, who is a traveling nurse with Fastaff, which is deploying nurses across the country, told CBSN's Lana Zak that "a common thing we hear is they didn't think coronavirus was real, they didn't think it was serious."

It's hard to watch someone struggling to breathe and see the regret that they have — the regret for just not wearing a mask, or maybe not going to a party, or maybe not going to that wedding or not going to that church service," Mobley said. "In the end, people are dying because they just didn't realize the seriousness of that situation. And It's hard to watch."

It's hard to have sympathy for the farmer who complains that his horse is in the far side of the field because he forgot to close the barn door and the horse had gotten out! Likewise, it's hard to have pity on those Trumpers who adher to his "alternative facts" and end up with Covid, or with any other self inflicted malady, simply because they ignored the truth!

Likewise - I bet those stats would be enlightening, if not astounding, especially if you were to factor in all those campaign gatherings that Trump conducted so as his sheep could admire him!
