A number of factors ranging from the reaction of friends and family, whether or not you already have children together and how that dynamic plays out, how folks in public interact with us. One instance is that often when we're out folks will look at us, at our white children and then my wife biracial kid and you see the "wow" look on their faces. Others have said "that's so nice that you've adopted her". That makes my wife angling and on a few occasions she's said, "she's my baby" or "she's ours" (though I told her she shouldn't assign that to me). There's other difficulties, too.
