STARWARS-LAST JEDI & *SOLO* movie ----Did u all like it???? Yes or No

I'm not going to lie I only want to see this because of Daisey Ridley I'm not a huge star wars fan.

The last Jedi was a decent film was not great was not as terrible as some are making it out to be. As a life long Star Wars fan I was expecting more of the film. The most disappointing thing was Finn it just seemed like ok we have him but we really don’t know what to do with him so they just threw this stupid subplot in to get him in the movie. Frankly if he had remained in the coma the entire film it might have been better. I had no problem with Luke like others did. This was a bridge movie to basically end the old and let the new stand on their own feet.

Carl Franklin they did mention what happened to the republic. In the ******* awakens the star killer base weapon blew up the worlds that were the headquarters of the new republic and its fleet. Up until that point the new republic and first order were kind of in a Cold War the republic did not want to openly engage the first order but knew they were a threat so they supported the resistance. Once the new republic was wiped out the first order began there military assault and conquest of the rest of the galaxy.

*Warning Minor Spoilers if you haven't seen the film.

i saw the movie the THR night before opening day in 3D. I was hyped, excited but unlike I how I left the theater after seeing Rogue One I wasn't thrilled by the movie where I wanted to see it again. Interesting point previous poster brings up about the Finn subplot which I thought was fine as I enjoyed the DJ (Sicario -Benecio Del Toro) character and the battle on the big Dreadnought with Captain Phasma the most out of the whole film. If you had problems with the Canto Bight stuff I can understand that as I didn't really care for the casino planet either. John Bodega and Oscar Isaac's acting was on point however Daisy Ridely well she didn't have any memorable scenes too me. Luke ignored her pretty much whole time on the island. That dark cave part was absolutely horrible and a waste of screen time as it moved the story-line no-where but the Snoke body-guard battle scene wasn't bad.

What ruined it for me also was all the stupid hocus pocus ******* projection stuff that went too far with the Jedi powers. Ok now they can ghost beam themselves across the galaxy to other planets? Also I didn't like Luke's story line either as I wanted to know more about the Jedi Temple and why would he want to ******* Ben Solo and not leave him a choice like he did when he faced the Emperor from turning away from the Dark Side? Luke would be wiser than that from his own personal experience in battling the dark-side first-hand and flipping Vader back. That was a major crack and hole in the whole story-line. Even Mark Hamill has made public comments about his misgivings with the Luke character in this movie.

The movie was poorly constructed overall story wise imho. There are a whole series of other cracks - basically as a life-long star-wars fan whom my mom took me to see Return of the Jedi over 5 times, Im not even remotely interested in seeing IX now even with JJ Abrams directing as I wasn't a big fan of the ******* Awakens either. I can wait for the next one on cable TV. If the Han Solo movie doesn't rock - Disney has ruined StarWars for me and the love won't be easy to get back.

I read a good article with Director Ridley Scott (of SCI-FI Aliens, BladeRunner film fame) talking about why he wouldn't direct a Star Wars film. He said he didn't want to be under the creative control of Disney and they like to hire young Directors whom they can dictate hence why their films come out all fucked up and way over budget. He got some valid points there now that I reflect on what he said. Thats why the 1st Director for Last Jedi left and so did the one for Han Solo both get replaced which Vet Ron Howard took over for the Solo movie. But has Ron Howard done any SCI-FI before?

There is alot more I could say but I'll end the diatribe here for now. On the flip-side, Disney XD's Star Wars Rebels series has been fun to watch though. Last I can't help but plug how much I love Sicario (go see that now if you haven't already and I'm hyped for Sicario II - more than Star Wars EP IX).

"..and the ******* will be with you - always." Who made that quote and what movie for True Star Wars fans?

With regard to Jedi powers... the Princess Leah coming back to the ship was a letdown.

That was a little too far fetched.

Other than that... it was good.

Thanks for your review!

I thought it sucked. Too much PC not enough new story. Same ole story, the franchise has done the wash- rinse- repeat- sell merchandise to ******* who don't know better- repeat formula.

Dam Disney and the Star Wars franchise got me locked in a Love:Hate relationship with them.

******* Awakens: Hated it

Rogue One: Loved it - saw it twice in the movie theaters at full price

Last Jedi: Meh - didn't really like it

Solo: Loved it - saw it last night (THR opening) in 3D and I'll be going to see it again sometime soon. Better than ******* + Last Jedi put together in my book.

For my StarWars Fans - the same guy who wrote Empire Strikes Back wrote the Solo movie - which I didn't realize till I saw the credits roll. It was a good story, it was original, it was action packed, it was humorous, it ROCKED!

Go see it Woody and Donald did their thing-thing in this movie but...

Thanks for the review!

Was gonna check it out maybe tomorrow night.

TLJ left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth and my hype for Solo is super low rn. I might watch it on Monday though since tickets are cheaper then here
@UKblackdude - my same exact feelings and this was their last chance as i was about to write the franchise off. Solo brought me back hence why i say it’s a love/hate relationship.

You ever had a GF/BF you dump but then take back cause you still got some feelings or love for em and you want that old feeling back. That’s how im feeling right now, Solo brought that old thing back so im back with loving Star wars again. :blackgrimace:

After TFA and TLJ, we were trying very hard to avoid Solo. I guess we'll have to give it a chance.

These movies aren't really good. Every movie just seems like it's backing on nostalgia. The ******* Awakens wasn't original and Rey is a very boring lead protagonist. Finn's character is interesting, stormtrooper gone rogue, but they used him more for comedy relief especially in The Last Jedi. The big interracial romance with Rey feels very platonic and Rey had more sexual chemistry with Kylo Ren and Poe for those last few seconds. I don't like how they shipped Finn with a chubby Asian girl with an annoying personality. Kylo Ren and Snoke aren't threatening villains. The anthology films are okay, better then the sequels but that doesn't say much. It seems like Lucasfilm idea of being progressive is to empower the women, strip them of their femininity and write them as guys with the actual guys being doofuses. They didn't really do justice in portraying Mark Hamil's character as Luke and I have zero interest in the next film with all the original characters gone.

Ok I hear ya but something else here to think about for a minute based on what one of the original characters has said:

Harrison Ford has seen Solo: A Star Wars Story. Twice. Even though the actor who originally brought the character of Han Solo to life on the big screen decided to not attend the movie's premiere, that doesn't mean he hasn't seen it. But the real question is, what did the man who essentially is Han Solo think of the movie that doesn't feature him in any capacity? As it turns out, he is quite fond of it.

Director Ron Howard and Alden Ehrenreich, who had some mighty big shoes to fill in Solo, both spoke about Harrison Ford's reaction to the movie in a rather in-depth piece about the making of the latest Star Wars adventure. According to them, Ford has seen the movie twice and he "Adores" it. Not only that, but he feels that Ehrenreich managed to carve out his own space as Han Solo. Here's what Howard had to say about it.

"I had never heard Harrison effusive about anything, and he was raving about it. He said, 'Alden nailed it. He made it his own.'"
Indeed, especially in more recent years, it would be hard to describe Harrison Ford as effusive. That said, he does seem to be not only okay with Solo: A Star Wars Story, but he embraces it. He also seems to have a decent deal of affection for Alden Ehrenreich. A video recently surfaced online of Ford crashing one of his interviews and the two seemed to really enjoy one another's company.

Solo had a famously troubled production, with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller being fired after having shot nearly the entire movie. Ron Howard was brought in after that and reshot 70 percent of it. Alden Ehrenreich would have had a very difficult task ahead of him under the best of circumstances. So, how did he approach the role? As he tells it, taking on Han Solo was like taking on a biopic in some ways.

"Just like in a biopic, the main thing is that pretty soon into the movie you're really just involved with this story and these characters, and that's the most important thing. Your job is the same as in any other movie: to make the scene work and make it feel like a real person."
As of this writing, Solo: A Star Wars Story holds a 72 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That doesn't make it one of the most beloved movies in the franchise by any stretch, but it also isn't a disaster and Harrison Ford isn't the only one who seems to enjoy it. A great many of the reviews praise Alden Ehrenreich's performance, even if the movie has its flaws overall. Guess it's a good thing Disney signed him to a three-picture deal. It seems we haven't seen the last of Han Solo in a galaxy far, far away, and the new guy has Harrison Ford's seal of approval. This news comes fo us courtesy of Variety.
