Bye bye Tumblr

illegal content should not be tolerated. but all porn being banned is extreme. they are the throwing the CP excuse out there as a hotbutton to the public but it is an excuse. i have been un tumblr for a long while and never saw anything. i would have thought those types of blogs get taken down super fast with self reporting. your response is exactly what they want us to believe.

No. It’s the truth. Plain and simple.

There are some people who are just sick and will post tasteless content repeatedly. They feel that shutting down adult content is the best method of dealing with it. It’s their platform, they’re free to pull the plug as they see fit.

If it’ll prevent ******* and illegal content from being spread we should set our own interests aside and accept it.

have you or anyone you know seen anything illegal on tumblr? i have not and don't know anyone who has. (total of 6 people i know in real life on tumblr... so not many..)
tasteless AS LONG AS NOT illegal is ok in my book. Move along if not cup of tea. Just like i do on some threads on this site. some are tasteless but i move on to find something that interests me. I don't complain to this site if I was offended by something.

I just don't buy it.

call me a conspiracy person but I think there is something larger at play and censorship, porn, tasteless etc will be routed out but the powers that be.

We don’t really discuss adult content on Tumblr with people we know.

If that’s your argument, have you or anyone you know ever witnessed an airplane crash? No? Guess that means they don’t actually occur.

problem with twitter is many people use it for work stuff so now will have to manage a couple accounts to maintain privacy and the chance of leaving the wrong twitter feed up can backfire. i will try it though.
 
They are doing this for the same reason CL got rid of personals. Because they knew that the CL personals were being used for illegal things (*******) and that some of the people were *******.

Either remove it all like CL, or possibly end up seized like backpage. Huge overreaction, but Verizon / Oath is going to protect their investment.
 
I am not big on TV except for college sports and for a while I worked from home so had 2 computers going all the time ..one for work and another for "play"...…...I have got I don't know how many pics from tumbler and have been doing so for a long time
everytime I find or see a pic I like I will go below the pic and follow some of the links hoping for more hot pics similar to the one that lead me to the sites.....
I have clicked on some links/sites that had some pretty kinky ******* that I was sure wasn't allowed at all especially in the US
so as much as I hate it I can understand....just wish there was a better way of controlling it rather than shut it all down

what really pisses me off here lately....you look for IR sites of any kind and still follow the links...can not find any IR...but still hitting some pretty kinky *******!
 
Before the deadline, backup your content then leave Tumblr for good by deleting your account. Because Tumblr is a user-led curation site, the number of users is what gives Tumblr it’s value and makes it appealing to investors. While the illegal stuff is disgusting and should be policed, Verizon/Yahoo is probably using this as an excuse to clean house before selling Tumblr in order to minimize potential liabilities.

When Verizon/Yahoo sold Flickr to SmugMug they used the number of users for valuation. (Many of us just abandoned Flickr but never cancelled account so the “real” subscriber numbers were probably inflated). So now to make your collective disappointment heard by Tumblr mass deletion is the answer. Every account that is deleted equals one less account for their sales pitch. Deleting our Tumblr accounts on the way out the door can leave an impact if the number of deleted accounts reaches several hundred thousand.

Also if everyone uses Twitter to voice why they deleted their Tumblr using a common hashtag to increase its visibility, the no-porn decision won’t be reversed, but it will put the executive who made the no-porn decision on the chopping block if Tumblr value goes down.

Bullshit! Net Neutrality has nothing to do with Tumblr blocking porn. They simply are making a business decision to not allow it on their site. They were removed from the Apple App Store because of having illegal porn content on their site. They're choosing to go with banning porn to address the situation. They'll undoubtedly lose many customers over it, and may gain some as well. Time will tell how good or bad the decision was.

Websites have had the legal right to block any objectionable content they choose, legal or not, since Bill Clinton made the Telecommunications Act of 1995 the law of the land:

(A) any action voluntarily taken in good faith to restrict access to or availability of material that the provider or user considers to be obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable, whether or not such material is constitutionally protected;

HopingHubby likes following me around ... reading my posts, and injecting his criticism because his LIFE has no meaning beyond this website. He feels his life has a meaning when he's criticizing me.
