There was definitely good and not so good parts. What I liked best was the blues music in the movie, the juke joint scene and the sexy young nympho. You gotta love when she runs to Tyrone for some dick!Oh no. i'd say pulp - and the worst kind thereof!
ImO it's pulp in an artsy disguise. Filmmakers can easily create a movie that has a "cinematic" appeal, add music to make it feel more like a piece of art, etc. But in the end when it comes to the story and how individual scenes are portrayed and displayed, there is a lot in this movie (Black Snake Moan) that can be described as "pornographic". ImO they added the Christian theme of redemtion only in order to "justify" or "legitimate" the rest of the pulp.
Is it a good movie worth watching? - In my opinion not! But is it nice to watch a half naked Christina Ricci running around in chains? - Of course!
On the other hand... Does the movie have a potential to trigger in a Woman (wife or girlfriend) some weird BDSM fantasies involving Black men? - Maybe.
