Too Far, Too Close Upstate NY

I've sent out many very respectful messages on this site for months. The two replies I get are "your too far" or "your too close". I'm not quite sure if this answer is a general reply for NO Thanks or what.
I'm willing to travel within reason an hour or even two hours or offer to host in my home. Some say I'm too close I guess their afraid they may run into me in a public place, but I stress I'm very discreet, but no one ever offers a chance to meet.
Maybe I'm just in a dead part of the country here in Upstate NY
