You're not the only one who's confused.
Most transgender people know from a very early age they are born in the wrong body.
They transition very early and are willing to go to extremes to do it.. including running away from abusive homes, often on the street and having survival sex to just survive and be who they are inside. Needless to say that is why a lot of them end up with HIV or even worse, run into a homophobic person who kills them.
Jenner just went to thailand.. saw some transgenders (in a country where being Trans is not a huge stigma) and decided to become one himself.. go ahead look at KUWTK episodes.. besides Thailand Trip nothing would tell you he's trans.

You also forgot to mention Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn, according to Glamour magazine in 2015 was declared WOMAN of the year. So Caitlyn is a woman as well.

By the way it might be a stretch but it is said that Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn, almost had Christopher Reeve's job as Superman too...
