I am in Beirut at the moment and just enjoyed my first experience of the city's nightlife. In Saudi where I was last week the local women go out in public in Burka's in Beirut women flout ther femininity with mini-skirts and spray on leather trousers seems the norm...

Yesterday I went out for my first relaxed non-business lunch. Either Lebanese men like to take their daughters out to lunch, or their is a strong culture of older men with attractive younger women. I wonder which it is?....

As you spend more time in a country you learn more. For instances in Lebanon the age of consent is 18, unless you are married in which case the age of consent is 15.

In Saudi Arabia which I am visiting. There is no age of consent, but any sex outside marriage is illegal, which is probably a dire situation for around 50% of the men who might never expect to marry at all as many of the rich men have up to 4 wives...

Having said that the Saudi's quietly accept the situation by discreetly permitting brothels which supply women of 'all' nationalities, usually specialising e.g, palestinian girls, phillipino girls, white girls etc

Of course in Lebanon the situation can be more drastic if you fail to understand the nature and culture of the country which is dominated by around 160 'families' who generally each have a 'family' MP in Parliament. (with 160 or so MP's in the Parliament)

'Dishonouring' a female of one of these familes, irrespective of age, is likely to get you some concrete overshoes...

The country is cosmopolitan, multicultural, accepting and friendly but also very 'feudal' and currently overrun with desperate refugees, mainly Syrian and Jordanian.

Finally realised why I of all people seem attractive to attractive Lebanese women.

There are 4 women for every man here! :)

First a lot of the men did good a good job of shooting the other men.

Then the parents of the remaining men sent their sons away overseas so they would not get drawn in.

I thought, when I repeatedly saw men walking down the street accompanied by 3 or 4 women, that it was a 'quaint' custom of brothers chaperoning sisters or something like that.

I saw a dinner party that had 2 men and 8 women, and yestersday two teenage boys came out of the cinema with 9 teenage girls!

When I walk into the office in the morning all the young women rush to say hello with big smiles and wide irises...

and all the 'maids' seem to be 'foreign' females....

Last night it was all explained. No wonder women here dress with style and panache and mini skirts are the norm.

Women who want men hear have to go for it...

As I read your post, expatdad, two things came to mind ... "why would a man want 4-5-6 women?" I have ONE and she's all I can afford or find time to give attention too ... if I need more companionship, I'll buy myself a dog; much less expensive, and I can shoot the dog if it pisses me off.
Second, I was reminded WHY women have 2 sets of lips ... so they can piss & moan at the same time ... which again, supports my FIRST thing that came to mind! :bounce:

It's all relative.

If you are ever in that circumstsance you will find that 3 or 4 women are usually too busy finding fault with each other than with their man, and if you unfortunate to have find 3 out of 4 moaning it's the 4th that gets bedded and behaviour changes accordingly.

If you find all 4 having a gripe, go and find a 5th...that's the African way..

:)

With the right set that enjoyed shopping and dinning together it is entertaining but with the wrong set...

It can be a little bit of both. Lebanon is more patriarchal than most Western countries so women have less agency in finding employment and education. This difference in income potential creates opportunities for older men to attract younger women due to their earning advantage over women and younger men.

Also, Lebanese families of all income level are protective of daughters "virtue" meaning male siblings, uncles and fathers are much more likely to take meals with daughters in public.

I agree with you Kate, patriarchal and almost feudal in the way 160 or so 'families' dominate the country and most Leabanese 'know' what family you are from just by your Lebanese name. I was bemused at just how friendly the younger women were in the office and many are degree educated engineers on the like.

Judging by the nightlife I suspect younger Lebanese pay only lip service to many of the traditions of the older Lebanese and when you get a such a gender imbalance.

I was quite surprised to see relatively open signs of lesbian behaviour among some women, and I am not talking of hand holding. But I do like the 'stylish dress and manner' that many young women have here it reminds of northern England were English women generally retains a commitment to dressing with style.

Last Friday was entertaining in downtown Beirut with many microskirts on view and long long Arabian legs.

******* is licenced in Lebanon in the form usually of foreign white ******* from Eastern Europe. These will not under any circumstances have been trafficked through Israel which is the main supply route of east European women into the area as Israel welcomes with open arms returning jews from eastern Europe and usually does not check too deeply into their credentials which gives traffickers an easy time of it. But as Lebanon it still 'legally' at war with Israel such women will not be arriving here from there!!

I am told the local price for an ******* is 80 US dollars. I have not tested that information.

However living here the local Lebanese women are often of star quality.

Cynicism is high regarding the austere Saudi's. I am told the Phoenicia Hotel is the place to go to see holidaying Saudi men with young Lebanese women on their arms. I will have to pay a visit to the bar there to check it out.

I was asked a few weeks ago if there were any foreigners in Lebanon who were not spies...:)

I was in Abu Dhabi for the first time last week and it was clear that white men there have no difficulty finding partners. While most of the single women seemed to be of various far eastern nationalities I was impressed by the sweetest, prettiest black girl I have seen in a long time. She was clearly a young woman who believed that displaying her firm, round breasts prominently was a key to getting attention from the white men, and she certainly knew how to make a 59yo white man drown in her wide eyes. It is a shame I left the next day!
One of my company directors was making a pitch for me relocating to Abu Dhabi. I don't think he knew how easy a sell that young lady made it...but who knows. In that last 4 days I have been in three different countries!
