It is about "porn addictions" and "internet porn" without a closer definition thereof. Also, despite the fact the author is not specifically talking about a certain sex/gender it seems clear the article is about "male porn addiction" only. (Would be interesting what the effects of regular "use" of porn are on a woman, though.) Some researchers talk more generally, others directly refer to heterosexual men. Also ImO it should be considered to differentiate between an "addiction" and an "obsession". Plus, many of the symptoms are related to a greater field of addictions including others, like "(computer) gaming", "internet addiction (without the porn)", "social media addiction", a.s.o.
ImO the assumption that an "excessive viewing" of internet pornography produces social anxiety is most of all wrong, although you may find a high(er) percentage of "porn users" that have such anxieties. i think in most cases those anxieties have been there already before that person starts watching porn. Porn - like other activities as well, including (computer) gaming, for instance - may serve as a surrogate for social interactions for people that have problems in this field.
i would assume myself an "internet porn addict" although i am not obsessed with it. i`ve been using internet porn for several (10+) years now, and haven`t encountered the following (yet):
* social anxiety
* lack of confidence
* erectile dysfunction
* decrease in interest in "real" women
...and the list goes on.
But i have encountered the symptom of concentration problems recently, but that may have other reasons as well.
Maybe i am just not that addicted?
