As a Black male it saddens me how the Black Community did not embrace the series as I did, but I did watch all of Star Trek inclusive of Discovery, but DS9 when it originally aired had lousy time slots in several areas. Fortunately for me it had several stations that aired the programs every week in my area at that time.

I never understood why they made it so hard to watch DS9. As a white guy, I just enjoyed the show and characters. It never occurred to me that a black male capitan/leader was rare and iconic. I guess I lived a sheltered life, never really seeing a person as a race first, just as a person or in a show or movie a character.

Believe it as it is rare to see someone of such quality and eloquence be in that position on TV as the main character. I obviously was a fan of Sisko for that reason. I try to be color blind but I have to make an exception there.
